Newcastle Jets Soccer

Australia

Newcastle Jets head into the 2026/27 season after winning both the A-League Men Premiership and the Australia Cup last season. Under coach Mark Milligan, the club faces a demanding campaign in domestic football and the AFC Champions League Elite, where it will test itself against some of Asia’s strongest teams. After a heavy 7–1 defeat to Japan’s Kashima Antlers in their opening continental match, the Jets will be looking to respond against Gamba Osaka.

The squad has undergone significant changes, with new arrivals including English attacking midfielder Joe Lolley from Sydney FC, Greek striker Nikos Vergos from Melbourne Victory and experienced defender Alex Grant, also formerly of Sydney FC. Zane Schreiber and Patrick Wood are among the other recruits, while Zach Clough will be an important creative presence in midfield. Several key players departed after last season’s success, so maintaining their domestic dominance while competing in Asia will be a major challenge.
