The Australian Hockeyroos will play the third-place match at the 2026 FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup on 30 August 2026 in Wavre, Belgium, after losing 1–0 to Argentina in the semi-final.

The Kookaburras opened their World Cup campaign with a convincing 3–1 victory over Ireland before edging Spain 1–0. In the second round, Australia fought out a 1–1 draw with Belgium, but their tournament came to an end with a 4–2 defeat to Germany. Australia scored first against Germany through Blake Govers, but the Germans responded with four goals to secure the win.  The Kookaburras have been eliminated after losing 4–2 to Germany

The Hockeyroos began the tournament with a strong 4–2 win over Chile before facing defending champions the Netherlands, who won 4–2. Australia then drew 1–1 with China in the second round, with Abigail Wilson scoring the equaliser from a penalty stroke.  

In their decisive match against India, the Hockeyroos battled to a tense 0–0 draw. Australia had two goals disallowed but remained solid defensively, securing the point needed to reach the semi-finals.  Their semi-final will be played on Wednesday, 26 August, with the opponent still to be confirmed.

The 2026 FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup will take place from 15 to 30 August in Belgium and the Netherlands, featuring 16 of the world’s best women’s field hockey teams.  

Australia’s Hockeyroos will compete in Pool A alongside the Netherlands, Japan and Chile. Australia qualified after reaching the final of the World Cup Qualifier in Santiago, Chile, and will be aiming to improve on their bronze medal at the 2022 World Cup.  

Australia will open their World Cup campaign against Japan on 15 August, followed by matches against the Netherlands and Chile.
